All wildlife tours are enhanced by the naturalists who lead them and we believe we have secured the services of one of the foremost experts in Odonata species or dragonflies and damselflies as they are usually referred to. David Raju is one of the finest young naturalists who can more usually be found escorting people in India during their wildlife tours but his special interest is dragonflies and he has graciously accepted our offer to lead this tour in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. David’s resume can be found below and from which it can be gathered that there is no better person to lead this very specialised wildlife tour. In addition to dragonflies this tour will include visits to see Orangutans at a famous rehabilitation centre, Proboscis monkeys, elephants and much else besides. And if that is not sufficient, you will be staying in the best hotels and lodges available with everything being arranged to ensure that your every comfort is looked after.
Hailing from a small town named Kottayam in Kerala, south India, David Raju, whilst still young, became associated with a local NGO named Kottayam Nature Society where he learnt the basics of natural history. David has been now been working in the field of wildlife for the last twelve years. What started as a mere hobby, soon turned into a relentless passion. From large mammals, birds, butterflies, reptiles, frogs and his beloved dragonflies, where his expertise lies, David is interested in them all. He spends more than 300 days a year in the jungles of Central India or the Western Ghats and becomes grumpy during the days when he has to stay out. During the monsoon months he can be found in the Western Ghats running after his passion, observing & studying dragonflies and frogs. He was part of a team which described 12 new frogs from Western Ghats and a gecko from central India. He co-authored the book 'Photographic guide to the Dragonflies of Kerala'. and, with his great friend Surya Ramachandran, wrote the 'Photographic Field Guide Wildlife of Central India'. He is always keen to learn about new things ranging from ants to tigers. Despite being a jungle nerd, David is a 'people' person and is always willing to help young and budding biologists. And if you are having trouble getting those perfect photographs, David can point out what you need to do to take that prize winning photograph.
