Explore Borneo |
From the time you arrive in Sabah, this holiday is an adventure - but not one which
will make you feel you need another holiday to recover!! |
A real combination of lazy days and busy days, makes sure you see all there is to
see in northern Borneo. We also give you plenty of time to explore the city of
Kota Kinabalu, with its seafront and pavement restaurants— just wander the centre
of the city to take in the ambience of its mixture of Asian and Western lifestyles
- shop in the local markets and airconditioned shopping malls -
relax at the hotel poolside, or, on one of the fabulous coral islands of Tunku
Abdul Rahman Park. |
From your first evening, you can take in the ‘flavours’ of Sabah, in more ways than
one, as you have dinner at the floating restaurant, being entertained by local
music and dance groups and you will know you are in fabulous south east
Asia. |
The following morning the adventure begins, as we drive you over the spectacular
mountains of the Crocker range to the highest mountain in South East Asia - Mount Kinabalu. At over 13,000 feet, this is the only mountain of its height in the world, which never has snow. You will see the exotic plants at the Botanical Gardens and take a walk through the jungle to see and learn about the wonders of the mountain forest. On the way back to KK you will visit a local market and pottery factory |
To visit the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre in Sepilok, you fly to the eastern side of Sabah in the early morning, returning
on the early evening flight. As well as spending time with these delightful
‘men of the forest’, a city tour of Sandakan, including a visit to the Chinese
Buddhist Temple atop a hill overlooking the city and bay, will complete this
day. |
No visit to Sabah would be complete without some time to relax on the fabulous coral
islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, just offshore from KK. This is a really relaxing day, where you just sunbathe,
swim or snorkel in the crystal clear water, teem-ing with fish of sparkling
colours. This is an introduction to the islands and you can easily return
here on your free days, too! |
The excursion to Lugud Sebrang Orchid Centre is spectacular in all its aspects. Travelling by a quaint old railway through
the boulder-strewn Padas Gorge, passing rain forest and small hamets on the
way, the views in all directions are stunning. You arrive at the interior
upland town of Tenom and then go by road to the Centre, where you can see
examples of the fabulous orchids found in the forest and preserved here.
|
Following a morning at leisure you will join your guide at the hotel after lunch
and drive inland for your ‘Head-hunter’s Experience”. On the way to the town of Penampang, there will be a photo stop at the Kadazan
Dusun Association. Driving through land owned by the local native Kedazan,
with a short stop at St. Michael’s church - the oldest in Sabah - you will reach the forest village of the former head-hunters
- the Monsopiad tribe - where you can see 42 preserved skulls of their victims. Following a visit to the Monsopiad Museum and monolith, you will be given
dinner and entertained by the village dancers and musicians, returning to your
hotel late at night. |
Your final organised day can only be described as breath-taking as you travel to
the Padas Gorge and descend the river by raft. White water rafting can not be any more exciting than this! A day of excitement and exhilaration,
giving a whole new perspective and an appreciation of the way the early explorers
made their way around Borneo. (Please note that this day excursion is not available to single travellers) |
